During October 26th and 27th, the 2024 National Russian Language Contest for Universities, hosted by the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange of the Ministry of Education and organized by Heilongjiang University（HLJU）, was held at Volga Manor in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province. After two days of intense competition, the contest concluded withthe determination of awards in various categories.

The closing ceremony of the contest was held on the morning of the 27th. All experts from the judging panel, supervisory committee, and arbitration committee, as well as team leaders and contestants from various universities, and heads of relevant functional departments of HLJU attended the ceremony. Wu Huayang, the director of the Academic Affairs Office of HLJU, delivered the closing speech. Professor Huang Mei, the director of the Judging Panel, deputy director of the Russian Language Sub-Committee of the Foreign Language Teaching Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education, and Secretary of the Party General Branch of the School of Russian at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), provided comments on the contest.

This competition is divided into three stages: preliminary, semi-final and final. 412 students major in Russian from 165 universities across the country participated in the preliminary round, of which 60 players from 37 universities entered the semi-final and final. The semi-final and final of the competition took the forms of propositional speech, oral expression and Russian-Chinese interpretation. During the two-day competition, the contestants competed in language skills and discussed multi-dimensional issues such as Russian regional culture, fully demonstrating the professional quality and international vision of Chinese and Russian students in the new era. At the end of the competition, 1 first prize, 8 second prizes and 16 third prizes were awarded in the junior group, 1 first prize, 7 second prizes and 14 third prizes in the senior group, and 1 first prize, 4 second prizes and 8 third prizes in the graduate group.

The attending judges and guests awarded trophies and certificates to the winners, who will be fully funded by the Secretariat of the China Scholarship Council to pursue further studies or degrees in Russia.

The National Russian Competition for Colleges and Universities, an institutionalized project within the framework of the people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and Russia, has been successfully held for 16 sessions since 2008. Heilongjiang University has successively hosted the competition in 2011, 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024. The successful holding of this competition has not only comprehensively examined the current level of Russian language education in China, but also provided a broad stage for the vast number of young students studying Russian language to communicate with each other, showcase and improve themselves.
