Two translated works from our school have been selected for the "Chinese Translation of World Academic Classics Series"

The two books on“Doctrine of Spinoza" in letters to Herr Moses MendelssohnandMorning Hours: Lectures on God’s Existence, translated primarily by Professor Liu Weidong from School of Philosophy at the Heilongjiang university, have successfully been selectedfor inclusionin “ Chinese Translation of World Academic Masterpieces ” published bythe Commercial Press. These twotranslated publications mark the first time that works from universities and colleges in Heilongjiangprovince arefeatured inthesemasterpieces.It isthe most renowned academicmasterpiece in social sciences published bythe Commercial Press, which is known to be“amajor project of fundamentalsignificance to the academic and cultural development in China” and “the realm of the human spirit that humanity has ever attained thus far.”

“Doctrine of Spinoza" in letters to Herr Moses MendelssohnandMorning Hours: Lectures on God’s Existenceare central works in the German Pantheismusstreit, involving philosophical questions such as the legitimacy of the Enlightenment and whether the demonstration of reason can lead to atheism, as well as conflicts between common sense and reason. They hold significant importance for understanding the evolution of Enlightenment philosophy, nihilism,classical Germanphilosophy, and German Romanticism.

Professor Liu Weidong mainly studies classical German philosophy and German Romanticism and teaches courses such as the History of Western Philosophy, Intensive Reading of the Original Works of Kant and Hegel. He has published the monographJacobi’s Philosophy of Immediac (by Social Sciences Academic Press, 2020). His translated works include“Doctrine of Spinoza” in letters to Herr Moses Mendelssohn,Morning Hours: Lectures on God’s Existence, andDavid Hume über den Glauben - An Fichte. He hassuccessfully managed a project sponsored by the National Social Science Youth Fundof China,directedtworesearch initiatives at the provincial and ministerial levels, and published nearly 20 academic papers.

Theselection of these two translated works into the Chinese Translation of World Academic Masterpieces published bythe Commercial Press reflects the research strength of young researchers at Heilongjiang University and is also a testament to the academic inheritance and accumulation of the School of Philosophy.
