On October 20th,the first Chinese-Russian Science and Technology Translation Competition between China and Russia was co-hosted by China Association for Science and Technology(CAST), Russian Union of Scientific and Engineering Associations(RUSEA), China Center for International Science and Technology Exchange,Heilongjiang Association for Science and Technology and Heilongjiang University in the lecture hall of main building of Heilongjiang University.The opening ceremony of the Final was attended by Zhang Xiaoyan, secretary of party committee and vice-chairman of Heilongjiang Association for Science and Technology,Sergey Drukalyonok,first secretary of RUSEA(online),andChi Baoxu, partysecretary ofHeilongjiang University,which was hosted by Wu Jifeng,secretary of party general branch of Graduate Institute of Interpretation and Translation(GIIT).
The competition aims to promote the exchange and spread of science and technology , improve professional translators and interpreters’ translation competence of Chinese-Russian scientific and technological texts, and lay a solid foundation for thescientific and cultural exchanges. It attractedmore than 400 active participators bothfrom universities and translation agencies in the world, including Harbin Institute of Technology(HIT), Beijing Foreign Studies University,Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Heilongjiang University, Moscow City Pedagogical University, and St. Petersburg International Economic University.
Through a series of selections including the preliminary round, the semi-final and the final, the contestants demonstrated a relatively high competence in the field of Chinese-Russian scientific and technological translation with their solid language skills and rich professional knowledge in the sci-tech texts.
Chi Baoxu points out in the speech that committed to the vision of serving the national strategy and local development, we actively participate in great projects of Sino-Russia cultural exchange and sci-tech cooperation,which makes contributions to facilitating the relationship between China and Russia.
Zhang Xiaoyan said in her speech that she had a hope the Russian andChinese talentson scientific and technological translationwould fully demonstrate their skillson translationthrough this platform for display and exchange, in ordertoprovide strong talent support for Russian-Chinese scientific and technological exchanges andcommunication, and contribute to the exchange and cooperation between the two countries in the field of science and technology.
Drukaenko said in his speech that he had a hope the contestants would promote learning and exchange,andcontinue to pay attention to new trends and technologies,thus continuously improve theirtranslation competence inscience and technologythrough the competition.
The organizing committee of the competition will award certificates of honor and trophies to theprize-winners at the opening ceremony of the 11th Chinese-Russian Forum onEngineeringandTechnology. At the same time,the committee will also grant the winners on the finalthe title of Chinese-RussianEmissary forScience and Technological Communication, and thebadge ofRussian-ChineseEmissary forScience and Technological Communication will be awardedfor theiroutstanding achievements.
